"Team NZ, including skipper Dean Barker and grinder Grant Dalton, were welcomed into the ceremony with a powhiri, haka and huge applause from the crowd."

"Both told ONE News they were surprised by the turnout and strength of their support."

"It means a huge amount for this team. We put absolutely everything into it and you know, to not be successful is what really hurts the most," said Barker.

"I just want to say, today is the proudest I've ever been to be a New Zealander."

"It's the most important thing for me personally and I know for Grant and everyone else. I dearly would love to skipper the next Team New Zealand boat, but again it's not my decision." (Barker)

Dalton said he was humbled.
"People wanna stay with this team, this is unique."

"In a speech at the ceremony, Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce said he had a special message to deliver to the team and crowd.
" "This government and this country stands ready to be part of the next America's Cup challenge." "
(But we still need to act fast in order to secure and not lose pivotal members of Team NZ; don't let Team NZ or the wider team (the whole of NZ @ home or abroad) down!!).
"Auckland Mayor Len Brown said the whole of New Zealand woke up early to watch the racing.

" "We were with you on every tack, we were with you on every jibe, we have all become experts on foiling, and we all hated that minute when they cancelled that race early,"
Mr Brown said.
" "You united us, you represented us superbly with skill honour and integrity."
Hundreds turned out to watch the ceremony at Queen's Wharf and The Cloud."

After America's Cup 2013: What now for Team NZ? - 3 Oct 2013

"Dalton said the team had asked competition organisers about the system's legality before racing began, but it had been approved by the measurers. He refused to comment on whether he thought the system was legal.

" "It would be so wrong for me or any person within the team to entertain a discussion about that," Dalton said.

"New Zealand media have speculated about how the system worked, although Dalton said he was not clear on it either.
"But the system is believed to have given Oracle greater ability to stay on their foils for longer upwind, which was essentially the difference in the two boats' speed in the final week of racing."

"We're still gutted, it is still very raw at the moment, but the support we have had is unbelievable, we're very, very thankful for how passionate people are about our team and everything our team's achieved, we just would have dearly loved to be coming back here today with the America's Cup," he said.
"Grinder Rob Waddell said he didn't expect anything like the welcome they received adding that the support of kiwis helped them through some very tough times."

"Kiwi taxpayers subsidised American billionaire Larry Ellison's Oracle victory in the America's Cup with more than $1 million in grants and tax breaks for the New Zealand-based Core Builders, the company that built most of the winning boat.

"The company also received generous tax breaks, paying zero income tax for three years between 2009 and 2011.

"Financial statements also show employees and contractors will receive $2.3m in bonuses from the Oracle victory. Ellison's net worth is $53 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

"Air New Zealand also helped the US team with to make their daggerboards (but dcclined when Team NZ asked for help. 'The airline had the only autoclave machinery in the country capable of producing the specific designs required by the Kiwi sailors'...)..."  Read more
